Selective Spinal Immobilization Protocol Update

Untitled Document

Over the past several months, there have been a number of quality assurance concerns regarding the utilization of the Selective Spinal Immobilization Protocol. As a result, the REMAC has requested that all providers in the Monroe-Livingston Region complete additional training on this protocol by August 31, 2010.

The following resources are available at mlrems.org:
     -Selective Spinal Immobilization Online Course
     -Protocol 2.33: Suspected Spinal Injuries

ALL EMT-B or higher providers in the region must complete the Selective Spinal Immobilization Protocol update training which is available on-line at mlrems.org by August 31, 2010. The update follows a self-study, web-based, video-on-demand format. After reviewing the video, providers are to complete the post-test (also available on-line) and submit it to their training officer. Passing is 8 or more out of 10 correct. Failure to pass will require reviewing the presentations and protocols again, and re-taking the test. Following satisfactory post-test completion, providers may receive 0.5 hrs of BLS CME.

It is the agency’s responsibility to track compliance with this requirement. Agencies should keep the post-test in the member’s agency training file. Agency training officers may request the answer key to the post test by contacting this office.

With questions, please contact the Regional Program Agency.
