Dr. Manish N. Shah is
Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Assistant Professor of Community
and Preventive Medicine at the University of Rochester. He graduated from the
University of Rochester School of Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine
Residency training at The Ohio State University. He received further training
in EMS research as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of
Chicago.
Since returning to Rochester
in 2001, Dr. Shah has been active in the EMS community, serving as medical
director for a number of agencies, serving on REMAC, and working to expand EMS
services. His contributions were recognized in 2003 when he was awarded the
EMS Physician of Excellence Award from the Monroe-Livingston Regional EMS
Council.
Dr. Shah has also been a
significant contributor to advancing the science of EMS. His specific interests
are:
1) Improving the quality of
care provided to EMS patients.
2) Providing EMTs geriatrics
training in an effective and convenient manner.
3) Using EMTs to screen and
refer older adults to address unmet needs. He has received many grants to
pursue these projects and has published over 20 manuscripts and abstracts
related to these projects.

Rollin J. (Terry) Fairbanks, MD, MS, EMT-P, FACEP |

Dr. RJ
(Terry) Fairbanks is
Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Rochester School
of Medicine, and attending physician in the URMC/Strong Memorial Hospital
Emergency Department and Pediatric Emergency Department.
He currently serves
as the Chair of the Monroe-Livingston REMAC, Chair of the MLREMS/REMAC
Quality Assurance sub-committee, and as a member of the New York State EMS
Advisory Council (SEMAC) and the SEMAC Medical Standards Committee.
Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Fairbanks had 15
years experience as an EMT, intermediate, critical care, paramedic, and
EMS educator. He worked for both career and volunteer agencies in New York State and
Virginia. Since moving to the MLREMS EMS system, Dr. Fairbanks has been an
active member of REMAC and served as medical director for several area agencies.
In 2004 Dr. Fairbanks received the NY State EMS physician of Excellence award,
and in 2006 he received the Weber EMS Leadership Award.
He maintains his certification as a New York State Paramedic.
Dr. Fairbanks has a background in safety engineering
and is a nationally recognized expert in EMS patient safety. He conducts
research in both EMS and emergency medicine patient safety, and he has published
dozens of journal articles and abstracts on these topics. His research has
been funded by several sources including the National Institutes of Health and
the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. He also serves as an editorial
board member for
EMSsafePatient.com.
